While it doesn't simulate exact cuts and scrapes, it does make people who took a few too many boots to the face look bruised and bloody. There's also a damage system in place that lets us see some of the effects of our good natured work. To not overburden players with unseen choices, Capcom has opted to include a fairly simplistic icon driven system that immediately differentiates useable objects from those that are a part of the static environment. Of course, it wouldn't be a Final Fight without weapons, and so this game offers up plenty of bats, pipes, pieces of wood, broken chairs, bottles, knives and other sharp and blunt objects for stabbing and pummeling legions of villains into the asphalt when your knees and knuckles are busy.īreaking the Law and Faces Thugs do come from all over, but since the environment is so conveniently filled with things to kill them with, the action never feels overwhelming. But we did have a good bit of fun hurting people, especially with the somewhat expanded grappling system that allowed our fighters to hold and knee or punch enemies before directionally tossing them aside like garbage. Example: combo into -> combo! We got the hang of it after just a few seconds of goofing around.įinal Fight is still a pretty conventional beat 'em up, however. It's easy to do if you patiently pace your button presses so that they don't immediately trigger the beginning of a new combo string. ![]() In addition to chaining together those primary actions, the game also lets players precisely time punches so that the chains can even be strung together. The attacks make for some pretty basic combinations such as Square -> Square -> Square and X -> X -> Square. There's a strong and weak attack and both are complemented by a grapple, a guard, a lock-on, a meter-based attack modifier, and a context sensitive action button.
